Charlotte Yau
Cognitive-behavioural Therapist
Hello! - I am the owner & therapist behind Courage Beyond Counselling, a fully qualified Cognitive-behavioural therapist based in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Experience
I'm a therapist for displaced populations as I specialise working with people who feel forgotten- unpaid carers, refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants - those who carry invisible burdens. I have experience working with women from refugee and migrant communities who have struggled with racial inequality and intercultural issues due to their status, and unpaid carers caring for loved ones with dementia, additional needs or chronic illnesses/conditions. I am particularly attuned to the emotional impact of displacement, belonging and navigating complex identity backgrounds.
Approach
I am a CBT therapist with special interest in Intercultural Therapy. I primarily practice with the foundations of CBT and a blend of other approaches like solution-focused therapy, acceptance & commitment therapy and trauma-informed therapy. I focus on creating a culturally-sensitive, inclusive and compassionate approach to support client in their challenges. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, burnout, low mood or identity struggles - I help with moving clients from survival mode to a place of healing, purpose and renewed hope. My work is grounded in the belief that no matter how lost you feel, there is always a path forward and I'm here to walk it with you.
Get to know me...
I'm a foodie & I spend my time hanging out with my cat, wild swimming, photography or art: painting/junk journaling.
